If the top has embroidery, ruching or long sleeves, plain denim gives those details space. Choose your preferred rise: a higher waistband can meet a shorter top, while a lower one leaves a visible gap. Neither is required by the neckline.

Keep the shoes simple for daytime. The combination can become dressier with a neater bag or shoes you already enjoy wearing, without adding another statement garment.

2. Off-shoulder top + long dark skirt

A long skirt creates a different balance: the open shoulder line above a larger area of fabric below. Try a smooth or lightly textured skirt if the top already has a strong motif. Check the skirt length with your shoes so the outfit remains easy to walk in.

If both top and skirt are voluminous, expose a clear waistband or choose a closer-fitting top. You can also keep both roomy if that is the shape you prefer; the aim is a deliberate combination, not a rule about body shape.

Black trousers make a cream or patterned top the focal point. Use a clean waistband and minimal hardware when the sleeves already have movement. This is a useful evening formula because you can change the shoes or outer layer without rebuilding the outfit.

A bare neckline, small earrings or one short necklace can all work. If the top has a central butterfly or other motif, skip a long pendant that lands directly on it. Choose a bag you can carry comfortably without constantly dragging the neckline out of place.
