Elena Gilbert Outfits: Fitted Layers Without the Bulk

Start an Elena Gilbert outfit with a fitted long-sleeve top, a simple tank underneath and dark or washed blue jeans. Keep the colours quiet and the layers thin. The effect comes from a clean, close silhouette rather than lots of accessories.

The everyday Vampire Diaries interpretation

TV Guide’s costume feature, drawing on designer Leigh Leverett’s advice, emphasises tailoring for Elena. That is a useful starting point: clothes should follow the body without pulling. These combinations adapt her casual mood; the store pieces below are not screen-worn garments.

1. Burgundy long sleeves over a white tank

Choose a thin white tank and a burgundy long-sleeve top with a neckline that leaves a small amount of the tank visible. Add dark straight jeans and worn-in flat boots. Let the white show at the neckline or hem, rather than creating a large band at both places.

If the layers bunch around the waist, try a tank with a smoother hem or tuck only the base layer. A tight top over a thick tank will not become comfortable just because you pull it down harder.

2. Charcoal top and washed flares

A plain charcoal long sleeve with blue flares is the simplest version. Keep the top near the waistband so the change from fitted upper body to wider jean hem remains visible. Use trainers or ankle boots with enough sole height to keep the hem off the ground.

This variation needs little jewellery. A small pendant can work, but leave it off if it catches on the neckline or competes with another detail.

3. A grey zip layer for changing temperatures

Wear a fitted grey cardigan over a tank and dark jeans. Open the zip enough to reveal the base layer, then adjust it as the temperature changes. If the cardigan has a high collar, keep the tank neckline simple so the two shapes do not crowd each other.

Elena-inspired does not have to mean skinny jeans

Straight jeans keep the outfit compact; a modest flare gives more movement at the hem. A very baggy pair changes the overall effect, but you can still keep the muted palette and fitted top. Choose the silhouette you enjoy wearing instead of forcing a particular jean cut.

The plain close-fitting shape makes a useful starting layer for the washed-denim formula. Check its length against your preferred waistband; it is not an exact Elena top.

Compare the product measurements with a garment you already wear before choosing a size.

Use this over a thin tank for the third formula. The stand collar and ribbing add definition; its front pocket details are decorative, so use a bag for essentials.

Check the layers from the side

Turn sideways in a mirror, then reach forward. If the base layer rolls or the sleeves twist, remove one layer or choose a looser outer top. Start with your most comfortable jeans and add only the fitted layer you need.
